Director of Communications and Community Empowerment
Miriam Kaburu
Miriam Kaburu is a passionate advocate for community building with a strong educational background in Biosystems Engineering and Bioresource Engineering from Michigan State University and McGill University, respectively. She is dedicated to creating safe and inclusive spaces where communities can engage meaningfully. Miriam is devoted to preserving African traditions and languages and is committed to building an archive of information for her child and future generations. As a devoted mother, she is invested in nurturing her own family and cultivating a legacy of rich cultural heritage for all.
Director of Community Engagement and Partnerships
Sylvester Nyerere
Sylvester Nyerere holds a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and African Studies from the University of Toronto and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. He is a values-driven individual committed to meaningful, inclusive community engagement that embraces diversity and supports positive community development.

His passion for African languages and cultural preservation was shaped by his research on the impact of language of instruction on student performance in Western Kenya. This experience deepened his commitment to protecting linguistic heritage and promoting culturally responsive approaches to learning and communication.

Nyerere is a strong advocate for youth involvement in co-creating solutions to real-world challenges, believing that young people bring essential perspectives to innovation and community development. He is also a curious and lifelong learner with wide-ranging interests across education, leadership, culture, and knowledge systems.

At Konki Media Foundation, he leads partnerships, and operations for Konki TV on YouTube and podcast platforms. Through multimedia storytelling and community-centered content, his work aims to foster cultural appreciation, linguistic diversity, and meaningful community engagement.
